Use “Facebook Notes” Instead of Ezinearticles
So going forward I’m going to post about 1/2 of my good content on my blog and 1/2 of my content on Facebook Notes. What I’m finding is that posts in Facebook Notes are ranking high for competitive terms without even building backlinks. The cool thing is that it has a built in viral aspect to it and people can read and comment on your posts without ever leaving Facebook. You are going to dig this video.
This is protected content.

Rusty,
Great idea. I haven’t used FB notes much at all. I had the same reservations as you (who reads this?).
What have you found with G+? So far I’m getting good traffic from there as well.
-Troy
Rusty,
I love this approach. My only question is what kind of content to do you recommend posting as a note? Basically how do I distinguish between a blog post and a FB note? Also, could I condense blog posts, and just post the main points as a note?
Thanks for the great tip, as always!
Surfs up,
A couple of questions about this:
What sort of traffic have you seen from this already Rusty?
Do you think there’s anything to stop you posting a new article on EZA and then re-posting on Facebook Notes a week or so later?
Good 1up for us, Keep up the good work!
Awesome tip Rusty. But do you have to target keywords on the Facebook notes like you do on your blog post?
Rusty,
Do you mean you Facebook fan page? If so, I think FBB has around 10k visitors which would make a click through more likely. How much link building did you do for the example note that ranked #2?
@TroyP,
Google+ gets more action per follower…but not too many people are using right now. I think it will be big in 6-9 months. Do they have a blog type function of some sort? I’ll check it out…because they have good incentive to rank their won properties high.
@Sal,
Yeah…a condensed blog post is probably the perfect description. You could probably summarize a blog post and then link to your full post on your blog.
@George,
It is hard to track at this time. I will have a better feel of the effect after 20-30 of these notes are ranking on page one for my target terms.
@Keith,
You want your Facebook Note to rank in Google for a keyword that gets a decent amount of traffic without being too competitive. So you would want to do it similar to a blog post…as far as keyword selection goes.
@Jimmy,
Yes…I will certainly get a decent amount of comments due to the number of fans on my FB page. The real power of what I’m discussing here is in ranking these notes in Google. Try and rank 30+ quality FB Notes in Google and you are bound to get 20-30+ new fans each day. As they interact, it will snowball.
As far as link building to these notes…very little link building. It has been a while so I can’t remember exactly what was done. I need to do a 1WL submission for each note.

Would I be right in thinking that the ‘google blog type function’ might well be knol.google.com?
I’ve upped a few posts there, and one in particular seems to generate me a large volume (for me) of traffic. It’s not direct traffic, but the keyword I get being presented is ‘food’. A particularly tasty word (sorry, couldn’t help it), but not one I’d expect to get ANY sort of ranking for…

Hi Rusty
I am currently facing a google sandbox period on my main money site.
Last time it ended for 2 months. I hope to get it out to normal rankings soon. I am going to give this method a try and will post my results here or mail you in coming week.
One thing though, Since I am not a big Facebook Geek, I want to keep that video for viewing later in my PC as a reference. How can that be done?
Shane
I am not a big facebook guy but it looks as though I may have to jump in.
Thanks for the update.
Awesome post Rusty! I’m going to throw up a few notes and track my progress with them.
This is sort of off topic, but at your fitness blog, what plugin do you use to get the optin box at the end of all of your posts? It’s a good looking box that isn’t too intrusive. If you have an affiliate link I’ll gladly use it.
Thanks buddy!
I haven’t got my facebook fan page up to speed since I have been working my butt off in trying to finish my first info product…but it looks like I really need to make sure I stay on top of the notes as well. Thanks for the tip Rusty!
Hey Everyone…
I noticed a lot of people here are saying they don’t use facebook much or especially not used to it for promoting business.
If anyone needs any novice advice or assistance in setting up promotions; I have worked with a Social Media agency for a few years now and would be willing to help…
Hit me up on Sal@SalGreco.com if you need any assistance.
Hope I can help
@rusty, THANKS for the response, it was the one I was hoping for… PERFECT!
Rusty,
I am only getting roughly 200 visits per day to my site. At what point should I consider setting up a facebook page? I remember that post where you paid someone to show you how to set up the facebook page, and he states in his sales page that if you don’t have a large amount of friends you should hold off (maybe 500 visits per day).
Cheers,
Tim
@George,
That is an older service. I’m hoping that they integrate something right inside of Google+.
@Shane,
You won’t be able to download the video here, but you can view it here. It isn’t going anywhere.
@Jason,
I wasn’t either…but you would be surprised how much it spreads your brand. Completely worth the time and effort.
@jregister2,
I’m a huge fan of that list building product. I have a full post on it here: http://fitnessblogtraining.com/uncategorized/watch-me-add-a-cool-opt-in-bar-on-fitness-black-book/
@Adam,
Very cool that you are working on your own info-product. The blog, FB Fan Page, list all tie together. It is a bit of work connecting everything…but once you are done it is a great way to build a biz.
@Sal,
Thanks for the offer to assist people with their FB promotions.

Rusty,
I’m definitely going to start building FB Notes on my fanpage. I’m done with Ezine. I recently tried to submit a few articles and almost all of them were disapproved. It’s way too hard to get that to work.
I have a couple of questions regarding FB Notes. First, you mentioned you can have duplicate content. Does that mean you can actually duplicate your original blog post onto FB Notes and use that without creating a spun version? I’d prefer to do this because my originals are generally higher quality than the spins.
Second, you mentioned trying to get the FB Notes themselves to rank high in Google, but what are your thoughts on linking to your original blog post through your keyword in the first or last paragraph in addition to linking to your fanpage in your “sign off” (much like you taught us in the beginning with Squidoo, Hubpages, etc). Do you think this would help boost the rankings of the original blog post while building your fan base at the same time?
Alykhan
Killer post Rusty. I’m trying out a FB note right now. Have you tried including a link back to the post on your blog from the note?
Rusty, you always seem to have great pictures on your posts! Are they from google searches or from a paid service?
Cheers.
Rusty,
Great post man, I’m gonna give this idea a run as I’ve been of the same thinking on article directories for about a year.
When you say 1WL are you talking about this website 1waylinks.net/ or one-way-links.com?
I’ve never used any linking service so I’d like to get the right guys for the job.
Bret
Great video and the tip seems great. Maybe you could elaborate on how you approached the Facebook connection. I ask this because you have to get a personal account and then put together a “facebook page” to promote your blog. Is this what you had to do also?
However, navigating within the “facebook page” is a little difficult as it does not appear to be like a personal facebook page.
Is there anything you read to put together your facebook page or was it trial and error.
Rusty,
What other blog networks have you used besides 1WL? Linkvana? Build my rank? Just looking for ways to build more daily links.
@Alykhan,
It could work, but if you did it like that make your FB note a summary. Then maybe anchor text link to your blog with the keyword and let people know the full version is on your blog.
@joshgwin,
No, but I love linking things together like that. You can create your own little mini-web that way.
@Sam,
For “Fitness Black Book” I buy $20 “Vetta Collection” photos from istockphotos.com most of the time. You can find just as good as quality from Bigstockphotos for way cheaper (like $3-$4)…it just takes longer to find the good ones.
@flexsez,
The .net site. Here’s my cleverly disguised (not really) aff link
http://fitnessblogtraining.com/1WayLinks
@healthywtloss,
I learned how to do most of my FB Fan Page stuff from this course: http://fitnessblogtraining.com/get10000fans
@Jimmy,
I need to do a post on Fiverr.com and the services they offer. I simply give my best posts the ocassional $5 bump to jump up in the search engines after 1WL does its magic.
Hope that helps,
-Rusty
@Rusty,
Cool that’s what I’m doing.
Another great post with fabulous ideas, Rusty. I was using FB notes a little but nothing anywhere near like this. Great strategy. You mentioned Fiverr.com. I use it as well. How do you use it to jump up in the search engines though?
And in the comments you mentioned that you needed to post your FB notes to 1 Way Links….do you link back to your note?
Thanks!
Rusty,
Ezinearticles did have one thing going for them in my book, and that’s the nice coffee mug they sent me…and I still proudly use it to this day…in fact I’m sipping from it right now while enjoying an energizing cup o’ joe.
-Mitchell
Rusty,
How long does it typically take for Google to index a newly published facebook note, cause it seems to be taking a lot longer than it takes when it indexes my blog posts?
Thanks
Hey Rusty,
I know this is off subject, but what caching plugin do you use for your blogs? And do you use a Google sitemap plug-in? Thanks.
Hi Rusty, I just discovered how to link my blog’s rss feed to the notes so it gets updated automatically when I write a new post.
http://4rapiddev.com/tips-and-tricks/submit-content-to-facebook-fan-page-automatically/
Solid info here Rusty, FB has a lot of potential with its viral nature, and I could see this being of great use.
Hey Rusty,
Great post. I’ve just completed my first Facebook note on the back of watching your video. Still waiting for it to be indexed but really looking forward to seeing the results. I’ll get a few more up over the next few months and let you know how they perform.
I have a few questions for you regarding your comments in the post and video.
1) Do you still think EZA is a good backlinking tool? I understand that in terms of direct traffic it may not seem like a good investment but is it still a good tool for pushing up your Google ranking which would then bring you a lot of indirect Google traffic?
2) Do you know if the links within Facebook notes are dofollow?
Really appreciate you doing this blog by the way. This is definitely the best Internet Marketing/SEO blog I have read. You get straight to the point and tell me exactly what I need to know with no fluff.
Keep up the good work,
Tom
