Facebook Notes SEO – Part 3
Just made a quick video showing how well Facebook Notes continues to rank. Also, Kris is now making about $4,000 per month from his blog. He had a few questions about his funnel setup for his blog and FB Page. I cover that as well.
This is protected content.

Awesome… I’m focusing on getting my Facebook notes and YouTube videos to rank. I’m also going to try some other non-Google traffic tricks to diversify my traffic.
I’m also planning a giveaway on my blog starting January 1st to really spread the word and increase the virality of my site. I’m testing a WordPress plugin that hides content on your site until you Like, Plus, or Tweet content. Then it automatically uncovers a hidden part of the page. I’m going to use that to get more social media engagement on my sites.
Lastly, why don’t we start a social media group where we FB, G+, and Tweet each other’s stuff to our followers? We can even vote for each other on Digg, Reddit, StumbleUpon, etc. Most of the big sites do the same thing and it’s a great way to get more traction.
Raza
Thank you for that, Rusty
I will start working on your suggestions right away, really appreciate it.
thanks for answering my question Rusty, any chance you could spill the beans on how you sexed up your facebook fan page without us having to buy that product? @ Kris if you read this, that is awesome that you got 1000 visitors in 4 months, i get around 80-110 in my first 3 months so I am gonna give your guest post a read. I have made a few sales, but thats pocket change and still have to wait for the refund period to end.
Raza,
I probably don’t have time to coordinate that, but a good idea.
Kris,
You are fast…I can see you have already implemented that advice and changed things up! No surprise that you are kicking butt so hard!
Mike,
It isn’t super hard, but you do have to get an SSL certificate for your site which cost a bit. You also have to change some of the coding of your site…actually let me do a search in Warrior Forum for a few suggestions.
-Rusty
Mike,
I just found this:
http://www.wix.com/mobi22/facebook_final_02
Looks pretty darn cool. I think the free version just has a little link to Wix.com…but so does the service I’m using. This looks like a great way to start out.
-Rusty
Regarding the facebook landing page, I first tried it with the “Like gate”, but then I intentionally turned it off and got a lot more likes and opt-ins, so far 11 likes and 16 opt-ins today from the facebook page
The like gates in 5minute fan page 2.0 really put a shadow over the entire thing, so it might feel like a scam or something to some people. The “thanks for liking us” seems to get people to click the like button even though they’re not gaining anything from it.
I’m gonna design my own facebook landing page with simple html/css and an opt-in form and if that works well then I’m going to cancel the 5minute fanpage 2.0 subscription. It’s a good service but the monthly fee is a deal breaker for me.
Unless I’m missing something then it is easy to create these landing pages with basic coding skills and the free facebook “static html iframe app”. I’ve tried it and it works just fine with the aweber opt-in code. Not sure what an SSL is but in case I will need it then it comes with my hosting package on hostgator.
The recipe search thing is some kind of advanced Google adsense custom search. I think it’s a cool feature but almost no one uses it. I tried disabling the ads on it but doesn’t work.
Btw thanks for everything Rusty. I honestly think I’d have given up on this whole thing by now if it wasn’t for your advice. The majority of other resources on seo/im that I’ve looked at are pure crap compared to fitness blog training. I am very grateful for your help
Btw Happy Birthday Rusty
Congrats, Kris. Rusty, thanks again for the helpful tips.
Congrats Kris.
But I had a somewhat unrelated question:
I have this 4 month old blog that was consistently increasing in rankings.
The majority of my keywords were ranking between pages 1-5. Then last night all of a sudden, over 75% of my keyword rankings just disappeared from Google. I can’t find them in the first 20 pages of Google but they’re still indexed according to the “site:” function.
I’m pretty sure I didn’t violate any SEO rules.
Has anyone ever just had a large chunk of their rankings just suddenly disappear? Did they come back? What did you do?
Thanks
Happy Birthday Rusty, congratulations Kris and best wishes to everyones success in 2012.
I must be missing something though. I applied the Facebook notes plan:
1) On Dec 20th I put up my note on my facebook page – http://www.facebook.com/notes/secrets-of-the-qigong-energy-masters/qigong-exercises-which-is-best-for-what/325527707477358
2) On Dec 21st I re-wrote the essence of the note and put it up on academia.edu – http://independent.academia.edu/MarcusSanter/Blog/54265/Which-Qigong-Exercises-Are-Best-For-What-Illness
3) On Dec 21st I went to socialmonkee.com and submitted FB note to 25 back links
4) Next day (22nd) I submitted academia.edu link to social monkee too.
Results (using Market Samurai) for keyword ‘qigong exercises’:
+ = Ranking Page has been indexed by Google, but is either not ranking for this keyword or not in the top 100 results.
What did I miss? It’s only been a week, is that too soon to expect results?
Thanks guys.
Marcus
Hey Rusty,
Happy Birthday man and thanks for all the Good Stuff!
I think Kris is right in saying that quite a lot of guys who got really good info to offer might have given up on it if not for your extra generous –and super effective– advice and help.
You ROCK,
Mark
I use the free app “Static HTML: iframe tabs” on my facebook page to create a specialized welcome tab.
https://apps.facebook.com/static_html_plus/?fb_page_id=141598499194509
You can create as many tabs as you want with custom HTML and even get one free Icon. This works perfect, but you need to know some coding to set it up. Or go to Fiver and get someone to do it for you.

@Keith
The same happened to me. Not only once but twice. First time all my posts lost their ranks and were nowhere to be found for 6 weeks. Then they returned to their former ranks – but only for a week. Then I got a lot bigger slap. Not only disappeared all my post again, but I lost my pagerank and my alexa ranking went down by 1 mill.
That was when I stopped focusing on Google. I had put all my traffic generation into Google but learned the hard way that you can lose everything in split of second. At that time I averaged 250-500 visitors per day and went down to 10-25.
The funny thing is that my posts are starting to rank again in Google without me doing anything to make it so.
Now I get most of my traffic from other sources than Google.
Happy BD Rusty and a happy new year to all on fitnessblogtraining. Lets kick some serious b… in 2012!
Keith, this has happened to me twice but my site regained rankings the next day. Unless it’s a part of an algorithm change then it should probably be temporary IMO.
Great post. I’ve tried FB with only fair results but will go back and see if I can do it right!
@rimam1 – Would you mind sharing the plugin you’re using on your blog to hide info until it’s “liked”?
Hope everyone has a really great prosperous 2012!
Gerry
Gerry,
Check out the plugin in action on my site http://www.ExerciseRoutinesBlog.com. Just click one of the social media buttons, share my stuff, and you’ll see a hidden part of the page appear.
The plugin was only $10 on the WarriorForum, and I jumped all over it. Here’s where I found out about it:
http://thelinkback.com/top-generation-seo-click-2/
Raza
P.S.
I’m going to start adding you guys to my Google + circles and promoting your content. I think we’ll all benefit by doing this for each other.
Thanks for the reply guys,
I actually put up my question on warrior fourm here:
http://www.warriorforum.com/adsense-ppc-seo-discussion-forum/512506-i-have-no-idea-what-just-happened.html
The guys there said that you should diversify your link profile beyond just using a blog network otherwise you could get penalized. What are your thoughts on that?
Raza,
Thanks much. Looks interesting, I’ll check it out.
Gerry
Great work Kris! Happy birthday Rusty and thanks again for the great info.
By the way, Facebook is requiring a SSL certificate on pages with custom content as of Oct 1, 2011 I think. Not sure if they are enforcing yet. Probably want to make sure you have one though if you use a custom code app. You can get one through your hosting provider usually.
Would love to work with some of you guys with promoting content through social networks. Is there a central way we can make that happen?
Happy New Years guys.
Josh
So if I’m just getting started should I still use the “write a bunch of articles on ezines” way? Or is that out dated now?
@Josh
Does that mean if my facebook html page is pulling an image in from my own hosting that I need to buy an SSL certificate to ‘secure’ the image? I set a page up last night and it doesn’t seem to be enforced yet?
Happy belated birthday Rusty and Happy New Year to all of you
@thebodyblogger
Here is a link to warrior forum that discusses: http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-marketing-discussions/438793-facebook-ssl-requirement-october-1-a.html
If you use a product like 5-minute fan page or Pagemodo, the service includes the ssl certificate.
Josh
@ Kris,
What social plugin are you using? I like the set up on your page. Thanks.
Hey guys,
Here’s a heads up. If you subscribe to the email list for Get10K fans there’s a sale going on for 5 Minute Fan Pages. The price is regularly 97 dollars and right now it’s at 24.95 to start and 24.95 per month. The sale is going on for another 2 days and then the price goes back up.
Purchased mine a little while ago…
-Sam
Josh,
I’m not using any social plugin, it is a custom design where I just enter the social widgets into the theme’s .php file. The reason I’m using TweetMeme instead of the official tweet button is because it wasn’t showing the correct count.
I basically just copied Tim Ferriss’s layout at http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/
Anyways, I’ve experimented with tons of different social widget set ups and it doesn’t seem to make any difference either way, although I believe that having a facebook like button above the article works well.
Raza,
this is Mark from TS Method.com.
I like your idea, if we stick and create a secret-society fitness-blogger-brotherhood (joking
) we can benefit (serious though)
Can you get in touch, I didn’t see any contact info for you

Mark,
I took a guest blogging course with Jon Morrow (editor at CopyBlogger) and he was a proponent of guest blogging with other bloggers in your niche. I think we should all be guest blogging on each other’s blogs (assuming the content is good of course). This will increase our exposure and of course build good, credible links, which will increase our search engine rankings.
As far as the secret group of fitness bloggers… that’s EXACTLY what other big bloggers do. Check out Jon Morrow’s traffic advice on his Twitter page. He says to create a group of people who promote your stuff. twitter.com/jonmorrow
Lastly, for anyone that’s interested… I’ve been having a lot of SEO success with my sites. I have 3 service providers that I outsource my link building to and they usually get me results really fast. If you’re interested, email me at rimam1@gmail.com I might even post them here at some point as well.
Thanks,
Raza
By the way, EatDrinkBetter.com accepts guest posts and I’ve presonally written for them. They get about 40k monthly visitors (according to Compete.com) and if you have a good article related to nutrition, health, eating organic, etc you can get some really good exposure. (http://eatdrinkbetter.com/2010/08/03/pick-your-poison-toxic-chemicals-in-your-coffee/)
Another great place to write is for Technorati.com I think they’re PR9 and links on their site get syndicated, tweeted, etc throughout the web. They allow do-follow links and you can put as many in there as you’d like. (http://technorati.com/lifestyle/article/its-hard-being-fat/)
I’ll share more tips with you guys soon. I’m not a big social media guy (don’t have the time), but I’m going to try to add all of you to Google Plus and Facebook in the coming few days.
Raza
Hey guys,
I’ll thought I’d share the 3 seo services I use to get my sites ranked:
1). SEO Power Booster (they write an article, submit to blog networks, wiki pages, profile links, etc.) Costs $40 and has gotten my sites to page 2 in as little as 2 weeks.
http://www.warriorforum.com/warriors-hire/412804-search-engine-optimization-power-booster-100-white-hat-contextual-links-grab-review-copies.html
2). ALN Service (The articles they create are machine generated spam, but they work like crazy) Costs $65/month and has gotten me numerous page 1 rankings.
http://www.warriorforum.com/warriors-hire/399924-get-ranked-fast-best-reviewed-wf-search-engine-optimization-service-daily-google-pagerank-1-5-blog-submissions-immensely-powerful.html
3). Email syed_hussain_anwar@yahoo.com He will create a piece of software for you (puzzle, screensaver, etc.) and submit it to 1000 software directories. It costs $25 and he’s gotten me to page 2 in 4 days.
I work in IT and have two kids so I have no time to do anything but write quality articles on my sites. I’ve used these 3 guys a lot and always get results from them. I test a lot of outsourcers, but these guys deliver consistently.
P.S.
I do NOT make any money by recommending them to you. I use them and really, really trust them so I thought I’d share with you.
Raza,
well?
Let’s DO it!
Mark
P.S.
I will check it out…
Thanks for the tips man!
@Kris,
Yeah…for someone with your experience it won’t be too much of a problem to create an FB landing page. I don’t like the “like” gate. In fact, I believe all of those like to see more content type of tools look better on paper than when you use them. I could be wrong.
@Marcus,
You are ranking on page 1 for your title. It takes longer to rank for your short-tail term. Just wait for it to age in Google a bit.
@Mark,
Thanks for the kind words. It is a bit of a hill to climb up…but I can see that there are 15-20 of you (at least) who will be able to push this to full-time in the next 12-18 months.
@Kasper,
I may aks both you and Raza do a guest post. “Survivng Google” or something along those lines. Great tips!
@Keith,
I believe that you will be fine with just blog network to get it started. The idea is that people will “like” your post, you will tweet it, people will naturally link to it, etc. We are going to go deep into things outside of linking to build traffic to our sites.
@fitleprechaun,
EzineArticles is dead. I should update those old posts. Don’t waste your articles on that site anymore.
@Raza,
I would love for you to do a guest post! Maybe in a month? Let me know if you have the time. I know you are busy.
-Rusty
Hi everyone and thanks Rusty for the 3 videos.
@KVC72, would you mind sharing some of your traffic sources?
is it FB?
Thanks!
@Rusty – thanks for checking and feeding back to me. I really appreciate that. You’re right, I was checking for the keyword: ‘qigong exercises’, not for the full title of the post. Doh!
Thanks Rusty.
I’m trying a few different things for traffic and would be more than happy to do a guest post in a month! I really like seo, but I dont want to put all of my eggs in the google basket. They like breaking eggs…
@olivierg
I have made it a goal for me to really diversify my traffic sources. With the Google slap I realized how vulnerable you are if you put all your energy into only one source. One year of hard work was gone in a second.
I still optimize my posts to Google and make some really basic linkbulding that not only gives me backlinks but will give me direct traffic as well.
This has somehow slowly pulled my site back in the rankings and increased my alexa ranking dramatically.
So Google gives me some love again, but my main traffic is from these sources:
Twitter (Has resulted in a lot of direct targeted traffic and have been the best traffic source for me after the slap)
Youtube
Stumbleupon (a part of my linkbuilding that has really surpriced me. One post got 15000 visitors in one day)
And Google (I don’t put any real focus on this anymore)
Facebook is my main objective in 2012.
Thank you KVC72 for your answer.
Do you create your videos yourself?
How many followers do you have on twitter?
Thanks again!
#1: Big ups to Rusty for being so freaking cool and generous
#2: He showed one of my Facebook pages seo results in the video and I have numerous other ones ranking high. I’m not saying I’m some guru but I’d be happy to help with any questions that anyone has.
Hey Kasper,
When you say you’re doing some really basic link building what are you talking about?
Do you use anything like 1 way links?
Thanks
@Jimmy,
You are very welcome. I see your name and site all over the place! This is exactly what you want to do…pop up enough times in enough places and people are forced to opt-in and become a fan of your site
I’m hoping to have you and a few others do guest posts throughout 2012.
-Rusty
Jimmy
What’s your site?
Hi
Thank you for all the really valuable information on here about backlinking and seo. I’m still trying to sort it all out in my head though, so do you mind if I ask a few questions?
Are you saying that no-one should bother with ezinearticles or goarticles any more at all, or are they useful to new people to simply build more links back to their site?
And what about the web 2.0 and free blogs? Presumably I can’t JUST use Facebook notes and academia.
With respect to the free blogs and web 2.0 sites, do I need to keyword optimise my articles in the same way I would for posts on my blog (i.e. keyword term in the url, the title, the first paragraph, the last paragraph and once or twice in the body of the post)? Or is it simply the keyword anchor text back to my site that is important? (Sometimes a url you want is not available e.g. lowcarbdietplan is not available at blogger).
If the later is correct, would it make sense to do an article on a free blog that covers a range of posts on your site on the same broad topic, with a several links back to the various posts on your site (i.e. one link to each of several posts).
And is there value in linking your free blogs to each other, e.g. a tumblr blog to a wordpress blog, and the wordpress blog to a blogger blog, to increase the seo power of the wordpress blog and the blogger blog, each with links back to your site as well of course?
Sorry there’s quite a lot here, but hopefully it will benefit others who don’t have much experience too. Thank you and very best wishes to everyone here for 2012.
David
@David,
I will try to answer your questions quickly…I need to get researching again.
*No need for EZA or Goarticles.
*Some Web 2.0 is great to get things rolling….link like you described at the end of your questions.
*1 Way Links service still awesome, but you need to mix that with blog commenting and Facebook.
Self Hosted Google-Sniper Blogs still do well.
More and more, I believe it is about being helpful in answering people’s questions all over the web. In forums, blog commenting, Facebook commenting, Facebook Notes, etc.
-Rusty
Hey Rusty,
When you say that we want to mix 1way links with blog commenting and sorts this is for diversity correct?
The blog comments are pointing to your money post url or site correct not a buffer site?
And when do you start utilizing 1way links after lets say a post is indexed?
Thanks
I’m loving your videos, but they are pausing for me too, like one other commenter said they do for him.
I want to watch them all!
I’m on a Macbook Air and I use Firefox — so I don’t know why it’s doing that.
Perhaps it’s something about the pop-up video serviced you use?
Just thought I’d share. Thanks for all the great info about Facebook notes. I couldn’t find a lot of it elsewhere.
Never mind, Rusty – The video eventually finished when I watched it again and was patient through all the buffering.
It just seemed to buffer more than your average video.
Good stuff. How come you don’t recommend affiliate links in Facebook Notes?
