(New) Blog Traffic Tips for 2011
I’ve been meaning to organize the past year’s posts in a step by step manner…and figured I should dedicate a page to guide a new person on where to begin. This private blog began in 2010…and I have guided people starting from scratch to get up to 500-1,000+ visitors per day. Several people have reached that point…but now some of the more helpful posts were made a long time ago. My hope is to organize the posts here so new people can go through the same process.
You will be able to click the links below, but you won’t be able to see these posts unless you register for free and login first. I am going to close off registration at some point…but it is still open for now.
Things on the Internet Change Every 6-12 Months
…even if you have gone through the posts from the beginning, make sure and read this outline. I have changed my suggestion on where to post your articles and how many you should post on your site vs off your site.
Step 1: Your Main Website and Home Base
You are going to need your own domain and website that you own. This is a non-negotiable in my opinion. Those who listen to this and take action are going to be extremely glad they did in 3-4 years. Here are posts covering that topic.
Note: If you want to know where I learned the technical aspects of blogging it was here —> Blog Success. These are the guys who taught me how to build Fitness Black Book from scratch into an authority site. This is a monthly membership site, but worth it for those who want someone that can contact if they are stumped technically. This is NOT necessary for those of you who are more technically advanced.
Step 2: What to Write About to Get Traffic
The goal with writing content is to get ranked high in the search engines for words that get searched for. When you blog is newer, my advice is to aim for keywords with less competition…which means they will probably get less traffic (not always). Trying to hit a home run with a high traffic term that has a bunch of competition is a recipe for frustration. It is better to build your traffic up consistently and predictably. Here are posts on how to do that…
Finding Keywords With High Traffic and Low Competition
Big Tip: Target “trendy” terms even if they don’t show a lot of traffic with the Google Keyword Tool. Trendy terms have much less competition than things like “six pack abs”. For instance, I got crazy traffic from terms like “Fight Club Workout”, “Taylor Lautner Workout”, etc. The key is to pay attention to movies coming out or infomercials and write content based on those keywords. The key is to be on top of pop culture…both of my Men’s and Women’s fitness products were designed to convert well for this traffic, by the way
Step 3: Traffic and Link Building
So to get traffic to your site, you need to publish unique articles off of your site and have these articles link back to your site. I used to recommend that you submit 100 unique articles to Ezine Articles. I have since changed my recommendation. Perhaps submit 10-20 articles to Ezine Articles for a good linking foundation. Do the rest of your link building, by submitting spun articles to a blog network. Blog commenting seems to be working well again to, but put good comments on blogs that people read. Here are some posts that talk about this stuff.
- 50,000 Visitors from 68 Articles
- Create Dozens of Unique Articles from One Seed Article
- Blog Commenting (working great again in 2011)
- A Backlink Action Plan (simplified)
Note: EzineArticles.com simply isn’t ranking as well as it used to. It does make sense to get a dozen or so unique articles on the site, because people still republish them…but it isn’t the traffic generator that it used to be. Also, Human Rewriter went out of business, but The Best Spinner is so solid now that it makes sense to use that tool. I like to spin with that tool and submit to 1WayLinks to get incoming links to my blog and satellite sites. This is NOT the only game in town. There are other blog networks and things like SeNuke X that people are getting good results with. The main thing is that you need something to help you create spun articles…and a place to submit those spun articles to to get links back to your site.
Step 4: Satellite Sites – Earning Money While You Link Build
You can make $1,000+ per month while link building to your site, by building a network of satellite sites. When I was starting out, I used satellite sites to build traffic to Fitness Black Book. I forget exactly what the satellite sites were earning me, but if I was to guess it was $1,500 extra per month. This paid for all my tools and helped me build my blog to an authority status. Note: The top affiliates for both of my Visual Impact products use a combo of satellite sites and their blog. Here are some posts showing you how crush it with this method.

Step 5: Dave’s 2 Case Studies (New Blogger Kicking Butt)
Dave is a quick learner. He started his blog and followed along with this training. He now gets over 1,000 visitors per day and $1,500′ish per month (very part time). Last time I checked. My guess is that by his 3rd or 4th year he will be pushing into the 6 figure range. He does this on a part-time basis…and he loves his current career. This will just give him extra income to travel, put away for his kid’s college fund, etc.

Now you know what to write, you have a site, and you have a method on how to get traffic and links to your site. At this point, simply rinse and repeat until you hit around 300-500 visitors per day. Attempting to list build and building a FB Fan Page and sales funnel will simply be overwhelming. Get to at least a consistent 300-500+ visitors per day before heading to the next phase of your business.
