Setup Your Blog To Make Affiliate Sales. A Great Example!

So, I’m putting Clint on the spot a bit here. I made a video showcasing his blog without asking him. My guess is that he is cool with that :) Anyway…the reason I’m showing you his blog is because he is on the verge of developing a full-time income with his site. I was in a similar position as Clint is in now, in the fall of 2008…and went full-time just 6 months later in March of 2009. Whether or not he quits his job is up to him, but he is closer than he thinks to really killing it with his site. Let’s take a look at his blog…

  • You didn’t ask! :)
    Thanks for featuring me mate, and yes – I’m from Sydney, Australia.
    It’s been helpful having a strong marketing background (I’m also a self employed graphic designer by trade so that helps too).
    Gotta say though, most of the tricks I’ve learnt have been as part of this training group so a BIG, BIG thanks to all that have been contributing regularly to the comments and of course to you Rusty!

    Any questions ill be more than happy to answer.

  • Good looking site Clint.

    Thanks for opening yourself up to questions too.

    I particularly like to share this thing that pops up on the pictures.

  • @altrainer
    Thanks mate :)
    The ‘share’ thing is part of the ‘Wibiya’ toolbar if anyone is interested.

  • bears34:

    Clint, I like the way you write. Good entertainment mixed with good content.

  • melkersh:

    Hey Clint, so are you close to building a full time income with your blog?

  • @bear34
    Glad you’re enjoying it :)

    @melkersh
    I would say ‘NO’ at this point. Also depends what you classify as a full-time income too.
    I would argue that a lot of others on this list are probably making a LOT more than I am.
    Things I’m not currently doing (and probably should be) are:
    1waylinks – i haven’t used this in more than half a year
    article spinning – haven’t done this in a long, long time either
    market samurai – I’m on a macintosh now, so i don’t use it at all.

    All of my articles are titled and worded how i ‘creatively’ see fit – so if they are getting traffic, it’s pure luck.

    I can only imagine if i put more effort into it, what the rewards would be.
    Rusty has now inspired me!

  • Clint,

    Great work man. I’ve been following your blog for some time now and the thing I like most about it is it’s got edge to it. In reading your posts, you definitely don’t play it safe and risk maybe even offending some people. But this is what makes it awesome.

    People love controversy and this will surely attract more visitors than it will turn away. At least it did for me. The fact that you’re making consistent sales without Market Samurai or 1WL is proof of that. I’m not saying everyone should be “crude” in their blogs, but they should display some personality. Just my opinion. Keep it up!

    Alykhan

  • I agree with Alkhan. Part of the reason you blog is awesome is because of your writing style and humor. Keep it up.

  • Hi Clint!

    Thank for letting us all learn from what you are doing.

    I’m sure that market samurai will work on the mac because it is written in Adobe Air. I just double-checked their web site and they say it works on mac.

    Anyways. Thanks.

    Ed

  • @Alykhan
    Thanks bro!
    Yeah, i don’t play it safe and have gone in that direction from the get-go.
    Ultimately trying to ‘be myself’ and differentiate myself from the hard-selling fitness sites I stumble upon every day. It’s comments like this that keep me wanting to write by the way :)

    @fitness2239
    I’ll keep the humour in there as much as possible :)

    @sgtaw
    Nice tip with Market Samurai – installed on the mac and ready to inject some traffic into the blog. Thanks again!

    Way to go Ninja Dan!

  • Once again, a truly useful post from Rusty!

    After seeing this review and having seen the changes Rusty made for Marks TS Method site, I have decided to make a couple of changes to my own. I will change the navigation menu to show ‘my free programs’, ‘top rated workouts’, top rated diet solutions’, ‘get motivated’ (my own ecourse/program) ‘home’ and ‘about’.

    Should anyone feel like popping over and leaving me some feedback, it would be gladly accepted:)

    I’ve just got myself on 1waylinks, purchased the best spinner, done some keyword search learning and purchased Incoming Keyword Scraper. So I’ll be pretty busy over the next few months practicing and using these tools!

    Keep up the good work everyone!

  • Clint,
    Great to hear you’re having so much success. I’ve followed your blog for a while and you do a great job with useful and humorous content. Hope you really hit it out of the park in 2012!
    Dave

  • Hey Clint

    Great work and well done. I like the fact you have stuck to your guns and just wrote it how you see it without worrying too much about the keywords and other offsite stuff. I think you show really well how to engage and connect with your audience rather than just focus on the numbers.

    Cheers

  • I love the work you’ve done Clint! I’ve been a follower for a while and I love the look of your site. Did you design the theme yourself?

    My question: What is the one thing you would say is the biggest reason for the success of your site?

  • Clint,
    I have also been reading your site for a while. Your personality is great man, and your audience loves it.

    I took a break from spinning, and 1 way links, but I think it’s essential to keep attracting new visitors. If you get back to that, it’s probably only a matter of time before you go full time!

    Great work!
    Cheers,
    Jordan

  • Kevin McMillian:

    Hey Clint – Your site has always stood out and it’s easy to remember … good voice and good design … great job man!

    I’m a designer too, which is why my site lacks “design.” After working all day on our client’s designs I wanted to get my feet wet in actually USING the site.

    — Major thanks to you Rusty –

    If you look it’s pretty easy to tell that my site is just the TwentyTen theme without an image. Considering a little revamp now. I just wanted to see if I could even make this blogging thing work.

    Thanks for the inspiration to all in the group.

  • Hey Rusty – is there any way you could do this for a few other members in the group (including mine)? I don’t need you to do a post or anything but I know I could learn a lot if you analyzed my site in the same fashion and told me what you don’t think is effective.

    Just an idea :)

  • @martensd
    Cheers bud – if only i could be half as successful as your blog!

    @howard70
    I think that’s definitely worked well for me – now i just need to keep the same platform going, but also ‘tend’ to those numbers a bit more in the background.

    @bloomtofit
    Self-designed yes. SPent quite a while getting it just ‘right’.
    Biggest reason for success would be the no BS attitude i flood through each post… and the humorous aspects of course.

    @jordanfigs
    Thanks mate. I’m hearing you. 1waylinks it is!

    @kevinmcmillian
    Cheers bud. I know what its like. Bit like the plumber’s house with the leaking taps analogy :)
    I must say though, i reckon a well designed site is worth it in the end.

  • Clint,

    Who designed your site?

  • @Bryan
    It’s self-designed. I’m a creative/designer by trade so i designed it how i wanted it then got a developer friend of mine to piece it together over wordpress.

  • Kudos to both Clint and Dan! It’s obvious it’s not just the blog styles and designs that’s making them a success. It’s the personable, high quality content they continuously provide. Great inspiration for me!

  • Thanks Rusty!

    Clint, i have a question for you. I don’t post much, I’m more of lurker and learning. One thing I’m having a bit of an issue with is growing my list. It was doing well and all the sudden the growth stopped and i don’t know why. Could you give a tiny tip on what someone can do to jump start his list or site visits?

NEW Affiliate Banners!
I hired out a couple different graphic designers to create a bunch of new affiliate banners.

Here is a preview of one I just had designed. I had this made in a bunch of different sizes...

I'm buying high-end stock images with really attractive men and women. They will all be stylish.

And Yavor of "Relative Strength Advantage" created a new men's banner that looks cool and has the same feel as the woman's banner above. Here it is.
